Our Scary LA Wildfire Ordeal | Shock, Fear, Hope, Survival
Day 1 – Shock | What The Hell Is That?
What the hell is that? Is what I was thinking when I went out to walk my dog Nutty Nunzi near my Venice Beach neighborhood. I didn’t know about the fire then. It had just started a couple of hours earlier. Upon viewing the huge plumes of smoke with my bleary eyes for the first time, I thought maybe this was a very unusual and weird fog bank mixed in with some odd smog?
But since I’ve lived by this beach for over 25 years and never saw a fog bank this bizarre–I dismissed that thought. And since I admittedly have an eccentric and creative imagination, I then thought–oh, so the alien invasion is finally starting. The crafty aliens are using their atmospheric device to make this subterfuge thingy in which they hide their spaceships! Yeah, that’s it! I’m a genius!
But a voice behind me ruined the genius part. A woman commented on how she thinks this might turn out to be a pretty big wildfire in Pacific Palisades. And it just started a couple of hours ago. Then I noticed my furry friend Nunzi was acting kinda skittish and he started whining in an odd fashion. Like he was spooked. And he’s rarely wrong. That’s when my intuition started worrying a tad. Little did I know what was in store for us. And thousands and thousands of fellow Angelenos….
Day 2 – Fear | Mordor Consumes Paradise
Day 3 – Hope | Exhausted But Trying To Be Hopeful
Day 7 – Survival | We’re Alive – Home Still Stands
Sorry, will continue pasting my tall tale here later today when I get back from my “emergency” photo shoot a client demanded I do at the last minute. Curses, the writer part of my brain is foiled again! Goddamn reality strikes an annoying blow.
This “Real Time with Bill Maher” video is an insightful and thought provoking one that deals with the reasons why this particular wildfire was so devastating. And my fellow LA resident provides policy ideas that could mitigate the destructiveness of the next fire that will inevitably come along in the near future.
