The Arts | stunning animal creations from living human models

Share

You may think you’re seeing a frog–but in fact you’re seeing five human beings, painted and intertwined to create an incredible art illusion by Italian artist Johannes Stoetter.

Body paint artist Johannes Stoetter makes stunning frog animal creations from human beingsInspired by nature, Italian artist Johannes Stoetter turns living models into animals, fruits, flowers, or blends them with the surroundings. These impressively detailed paintings take up to five months of thorough planning and up to eight hours of work to complete. The winner of the World Bodypainting Championship says that the key to success is to love what you’re doing: “I think I observe the world, nature, colors and shapes with very clear eyes and an open heart. And painting is my big passion.”

You’ll have to look really close at this picture of a beautiful parrot to realize that it’s not a parrot at all. The rich red-and-gold plumes are, in fact, a woman’s limbs painted to perfection. Video | comedic film-maker creates hilarious Vine illusions

Zack King can make traffic disappear, jump through the closed doors of a moving train and steal the Eiffel Tower–and he does so with imaginative fun in his very short films known as Vines.

Zach King, Vine & funny Youtube illusionist comedian steals Eiffel Tower in France videoHere’s What You Need to Know About Illusionist Vine Star Zach King  —  By Laura Lane

Known as the Final Cut King, Zach King is a bona fide Vine star. While other popular Vine users post six-second pranks, mash-ups or jokes, King’s Vines are also comedic, but they stand out from the crowd with his astonishing illusions that use major motion-picture-quality special effects.

In a recent Vine, King grabs the Apple logo from his computer and turns it into a luscious silver three-dimensional apple and takes a bite out of it. “I definitely got lead poisoning, I think,” he tells PEOPLE. “I looked for edible spray paint and I couldn’t find any.” In another video he turns a lazy friend acting like a couch potato into actual potatoes. And in his most popular Vine, he takes a souvenir from Paris with him: the Eiffel Tower. Continue reading »

“Ornaments” by Aaron Rogers – an enchanted Christmas ornament will stop at nothing for a taste of milk and cookies

Aaron has created a whimsical and highly entertaining film about the death-defying efforts of a Santa Claus tree ornament in his pursuit of an elusive plate of cookies. Featuring a soundtrack comprising a few of classical music’s greatest hits, Ornaments is quite funny and a remarkably accomplished first film. The video has won awards at numerous festivals, including the Marco Island Film Festival, Anima Mundi, and The Festival of Festivals.

Thanks go out to my ever vigilant niece Maya for sending me cool funny stuff like this for my site.

At this point, the case could maybe, possibly be made that the market is oversaturated with late-night viral videos, and that maybe, possibly the talk shows should cut down on them a bit. That said, if only one can remain, it should be Jimmy Kimmel’s recurring “Celebrities Read Mean Tweets” series. It is a national treasure. – Time Magazine

Podcasts | Adam Carolla Show-the iTunes top ranked comedy

Share

The Adam Carolla Show is the top ranked comedy podcast and Guinness World Records holder for the most downloaded podcast ever. Adam shares his thoughts on current events, interviews celebrities and rants about whatever’s bugging him today. Which is usually plenty.

The Adam Carolla Show podcast--company logo

The Adam Carolla Show is one of the podcasts I’ve listened to for years, although I usually only listen when he interviews a comedian or celeb I enjoy. He can be a ranting handful and an annoyance to my more pc correct friends, but he’s usually entertaining and quite funny when his rant-machine is racing and firing on all cylinders.

I recommend trying any of his podcast episodes that contain any of these recurring guests: Larry Miller, David Alan Grier, Dana Gould, Greg Fitzsimmons. You can read my post about Gould’s podcast here.

Here’s a good article about the podcast empire Carolla is building…

Three Lessons From Adam Carolla In Building A Podcast Empire

By Michael Wolf

As a longtime fan of Adam Carolla’s, I was both relieved and excited in February of 2009 when the comedian announced he would launch a podcast.

Relieved because, like many, I enjoyed the comedian’s hilarious rants about pretty much everything under the sun, and the recent cancellation of his syndicated radio show meant that I wouldn’t be hearing him on air anytime soon.

Excited because I thought it could mean something big for the podcast market. After all, while podcasts had grown steadily since the term was coined in 2004, they hadn’t quite fulfilled their early hype for a variety of reasons, and I thought Carolla’s entry could possibly bring more listeners to the medium.

Movies | The Descendants – the script and intriguing tales about the production, director, writer, cast

Share

The Descendants is a 2011 American comedy-drama film directed by Alexander Payne. The script by Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash is based on the novel of the same name by Kaui Hart Hemmings.

The film stars George Clooney, Shailene Woodley, Judy Greer, Matthew Lillard and Beau Bridges, and was released by Fox Searchlight Pictures in the United States on November 18, 2011 after being screened at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival.

Tracing the journey of land baron Matt King who struggles with unexpected occurrences in his monotonous life, The Descendants was released to positive reviews from critics and won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as two Golden Globe Awards for Best Picture – Drama and Best Actor – Drama for Clooney.

The Descendants Movie Trailer

ABOUT THE DESCENDANTS PRODUCTION

The film began its on-location shoot in Hawaii on March 15, 2010. Most of the film was shot in Honolulu and around Hanalei Bay. Underwater photographer Don King filmed a crucial scene where Alex King sinks below the surface of a pool and screams out her grief underwater.

The house used as Matt King’s house had one major flaw in that it lacked the banyan tree described in the book; the filmmakers solved the issue by transplanting a banyan. For the scene where the King family drives up to a ridge to look over their beautiful land, the film used a 3,000-acre private cattle ranch on the south shore of Kauai, Kipu Ranch. Kaui Hart Hemmings, the author of the novel on which the movie was based, had a cameo as Matt King’s secretary.

Post-production began on June 14, and continued into February 2011.It screened at the Telluride, Toronto and New York film festivals and was originally scheduled to have a limited release on December 16, 2011, but was moved to November 23, 2011[9] and then November 18, 2011.

The soundtrack uses Hawaiian music, featuring artists including Gabby Pahinui, Ray Kane, Keola Beamer, Lena Machado, Sonny Chillingworth, Jeff Peterson, and Reverend Dennis Kamakahi.

Podcasts | The Bugle – weekly satirical news by comedians John Oliver & Andy Zaltzman

Share

The Bugle is one of my favorite comedy podcasts. For several years, I’ve been enjoying this weekly satirical news podcast created by comedians John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman.

You may know Oliver from his job as a correspondent on John Stewart’s The Daily Show, for which he won an Emmy in 2009, and his own HBO show.

And you may know Zaltzman from, uh, uh, let’s see, hmm, give me a minute… (crickets chirping) err, maybe… just a minute (paint drying)… uh…  ok, I don’t know what the hell Zaltzman might have done or be known for or is up to, but I like him plenty and laugh at him plenty more.

John is located in New York and Andy is somewhere in Great Britain, and through the marvels of modern technology, they get together every week to create this perfectly preposterous podcast.

Here a blurb they tarnished Wikipedia with… Oliver and Zaltzman, with their combined height of 3.59 metres, will together canoe through the murky swamp of big stories, small stories and assorted hogwash that inundates our daily world. Comprising news, sport, comment, analysis, other stuff, The Bugle is the newspaper of the future, before the future actually happens.

Video | Top 10 funniest Curb Your Enthusiasm scenes

Share

Here is a very funny compilation of the Top 10 funniest “Curb Your Enthusiasm” scenes to hold over Larry David fans until/if a new season starts.

The plots and subplots of the episodes are established in an outline written by David and the dialogue is largely improvised by the actors themselves. Much like Seinfeld, the subject matter in Curb Your Enthusiasm often involves the minutiae of daily life, and plots often revolve around Larry David’s many faux pas, and his problems with certain social conventions and expectations, as well as his annoyance with other people’s behavior. The character has a hard time letting such annoyances go unexpressed, which leads him often into awkward situations.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is an American comedy television series produced and broadcast by HBO, which premiered on October 15, 2000. As of 2011, it has completed 80 episodes over eight seasons. The series was created by Seinfeld co-creator Larry David, who stars as a fictionalized version of himself. The series follows David in his life as a semi-retired television writer and producer in Los Angeles and later New York City. Also starring are Cheryl Hines as David’s wife Cheryl, Jeff Garlin as David’s manager Jeff, and Susie Essman as Jeff’s wife Susie. Curb Your Enthusiasm often features guest stars, and many of these appearances are by celebrities playing versions of themselves fictionalized to varying degrees. Continue reading »

Podcasts | Marc Maron’s WTF – thoughtful, talented comedian interviews other comedians

Share

I’ve enjoyed over 100 of Marc Maron’s WTF podcasts. This smart comedian has a talent for coaxing surprisingly revealing and interesting things from his comedic guests which results in excellent and unique interviews not usually obtained by others.

Here’s what Jonah Weiner of Rolling Stone wrote: Acid-tongued, rage-prone satirist Marc Maron has been a stand-up-circuit fixture since the Eighties, hosting Comedy Central shows and befriending guys like Judd Apatow and Conan O’Brien along the way.

WTF podcast Marc Maron comedian photo

WTF podcast by Marc Maron comedian

But his new podcast, “WTF,” may be his greatest achievement yet: a series of unvarnished shit-shoots with comedians that move from laugh-geek joke anatomy to quasi-therapeutic venting. Louis C.K. wept during his epic two-part interview. “The podcast began in desperation,” Maron says.

“I was broke, in the middle of a divorce, and I decided I needed to talk to my peers.” Maron’s guests range from comedians’ comedians like Todd Barry to hip young acts like Aziz Ansari to megastars like Ben Stiller.

The podcast has been good for his career — fans in the industry have approached him about developing other projects — but Maron says that’s just a happy byproduct. “I’m doing exactly what I want to do,” he says. “That’s rare.”

His stories are funny, profound, and moving. In his lifetime, Tobolowsky has had some pretty wild and crazy adventures, not to mention the fact that he’s worked with directors like Paul Verhoeven, Harold Ramis, Christopher Nolan and Spike Jonze, just to name a few.

Stephen Tobolowsky’s Birthday Party still, The Tobolowsky Files podcast

Telling stories seems like such an easy thing to do. Everybody has them, after all, and everybody can open up and start talking. We tell each other stories every day — someone sees you with a Band-Aid on your finger and you say, “I cut myself slicing a potato.”

That might be why people who are Storytellers, deserving of a capital S even if it’s technically improper to supply one, are not as celebrated as people who write novels or play the violin.

But a truly great storyteller is the farthest thing from mundane; that person is a profound pleasure. And Stephen Tobolowsky is a truly great storyteller.    Continue reading »

The video was filmed in a two story warehouse, in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA. The “machine” was designed and built by the band, along with members of Syyn Labs over the course of several months.
